Validation
Validation is an empanelled VVB’s independent evaluation of a project’s design against the Carbon Standard. It is required before registration and results in a Validation Report (VaR).
Appointing the VVB
Appoint a VVB that is empanelled with CR-I in the relevant sectoral scopes, and accredited in all scopes covered by the methodologies used, under a legal contract. Micro-scale projects may use an IVVE. See the list of empanelled VVBs.
What the VVB checks
- Use of the current DPD template and the Delegate Entity’s appointment
- Project ownership and its evidence
- Project description, external project status and, for AFOLU, the Minimum Buffer Percentage
- Scale and boundary, against site observations
- Local stakeholder consultation and the SCR
- Start date and crediting period
- Application of the methodology, deviations and the baseline
- Additionality and emission estimates
- Monitoring approach, safeguards and SDG contribution
How it works
The VVB agrees the objectives, scope, criteria, level of assurance and materiality with the IPP first. It uses desk review, a site visit and follow-up. It must reach at least reasonable assurance, raises findings where needed (see Findings), and addresses the comments from public consultation and NCCF.
The result
A Validation Report (VaR) on the CR-I template, with a validation statement. The VVB then submits the request for registration.
