Project cycle
Step by step from listing to registration, verification, issuance of MCUs and renewal of the crediting period.
The project cycle is set out in the Registration and Issuance Procedure. Start with the overview, then read each step in order.
A CR-I project moves from design and listing, through public consultation and validation, to registration. Each monitoring period is then verified before MCUs are issued.
Listing puts a proposed project into the CR-I pipeline. The IPP submits the listing form with the initial DPD and SCR and pays the listing fee; NCCF checks completeness and publishes the documents for consultation.
Extended stakeholder consultation (ESC) is the public online consultation on the CR-I website: 30 days for new projects and methodologies, 21 days for monitoring reports and reversal reports.
Validation is an empanelled VVB’s independent evaluation of a project’s design against the Carbon Standard. It is required before registration and results in a Validation Report (VaR).
After validation, the VVB submits the request for registration (RfR). NCCF reviews it within 21 working days, excluding VVB response time, and approves, seeks clarification or rejects it.
For each monitoring period, the IPP prepares a Monitoring Report (MR). It is published for 21 days of consultation and verified by an empanelled VVB, which issues a Verification Report (VeR).
After verification, the VVB submits the request for issuance (RfI). Once NCCF approves it and the IPP pays the issuance fee, NCCF issues MCUs into the IPP’s account.
A permanent change to a registered project’s implementation, operation or monitoring needs a revised DPD, validation by a VVB and NCCF approval.
Projects with a renewable crediting period can renew it up to twice. Notify NCCF 270 to 90 working days before the current period ends, then a VVB validates the updated design.
Most requests can be withdrawn before NCCF decides on them. A registered project can be deregistered at the IPP’s request once its dues are cleared.
