Eligible projects
A project is eligible if it reduces or removes greenhouse gases within CR-I’s sectoral scopes, uses an approved methodology, is not an excluded type, and meets the Carbon Standard’s requirements.
Eligibility checklist
A project can be registered with CR-I if it:
- reduces GHG emissions or enhances removals of one or more of the six covered gases, within one or more sectoral scopes
- is located in India or anywhere else in the world
- applies a methodology approved by the Registry. CDM methodologies can also be used. See Which methodologies can be used?

Single projects and programmes
Both single Project Activities and Programmes of Activities (PoA) can register. Several micro or small projects can also register together as a project cluster.
Land-based projects
AFOLU projects (afforestation, reforestation, improved forest management, agriculture and other land use) follow extra rules on land ownership, carbon pools and reversal risk. A project whose reversal risk is ranked High in any category cannot be registered.
