Retirement and cancellation
Retirement permanently withdraws MCUs to claim an offset; cancellation permanently removes them for any other purpose. Both are irreversible. Retirement costs INR 0.20 per MCU; cancellation is free.
The difference
| Retirement | Cancellation | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Claiming an offset: one MCU per tonne of CO2e | Any purpose other than offsetting |
| Fee | INR 0.20 per MCU | None |
| Reversible | No | No |
How to request it
- Submit the retirement or cancellation form on the Registry from an IPP or TO account.
- Specify the vintage and the number of MCUs, as a positive whole number.
- The account manager authenticates the request.
- NCCF reviews it, the Registry executes it and updates the status, and NCCF confirms by email.
After retirement or cancellation
- The MCUs cannot be reissued, and requests to reverse them are not considered.
- Neither the account holder nor any third party can claim those MCUs, or their SDG benefits, again.
- NCCF takes no further action on them and grants no rights in them.
