Methodology assessment by VVBs
Every new methodology or tool is assessed independently by two different VVBs. The second VVB also reviews the first VVB’s report. VVBs need extra experience to assess methodologies.
Two independent assessments
- The IMD appoints the first VVB. NCCF appoints the second; the IMD contracts and pays it.
- Both follow the same scope, rules and procedures.
- The second VVB reviews the first VVB’s Assessment Report and states its conclusion on it.
- Revisions need one VVB assessment.
What VVBs check
That the methodology or tool conforms to the Carbon Standard, the Methodology Approval Procedure and other rules; that it uses the current template; that it is clear, concise and logically structured so that IPPs and VVBs can use it; and that each element complies.
