Monitoring plan

The monitoring approach sets out what is measured and how, who is responsible and how quality is controlled. Monitored data must be kept for at least five years after the final crediting period or the last issuance.

ProjectsLast reviewed 23 October 2026

Two parts

  • Data and parameters monitored: for each one, its value, units, procedure, frequency, equipment and calibration, external sources and QA/QC.
  • Monitoring strategy: how data is collected, the roles involved, and a map of how data flows.

Also required

  • QA/QC procedures, uncertainty and accuracy, and calibration of instruments.
  • A GHG management system with defined roles and responsibilities, including the Delegate Entity’s.
  • Monitoring of SD contribution and, for AFOLU projects, of reversals, following the CR-I tools.
  • Sampling, where used, following the CDM Sampling and Surveys Standard.

Keeping records

Keep all monitored data for at least 5 years after the end of the final crediting period or the latest issuance of MCUs, whichever is later. More generally, all entities keep Registry records for at least 10 years from their last intended use.

Calibration at verification

If calibration was late, the VVB applies the maximum permissible error when the error is within limits, or the measured error when it exceeds them. Calibration must be carried out by accredited organisations.

Changing the plan

Permanent changes to the monitoring approach go through a permanent design change.
